Mob and individual, in one record. Live
Run your herd the way it actually is — some stock managed by the mob, some tracked to the individual EID tag — without choosing a plan for one or the other, and without a painful migration the day you decide to start tagging.
Every other platform makes you pick a side. AgriWebb sells a "Mob" plan and an "Individual Animal" plan and charges differently for each; Mobble does mobs but has no individual EID tracking at all. Real operations don't work like that — you muster a mob, but you also want the genetics on your bulls, the weight history on your sale steers, and the treatment record on the cow that keeps getting sick.
Livestock Library holds both in a single record set. A mob is a live group an animal belongs to at a point in time; an individual animal carries its own NLIS/EID tag, breed, sex, date of birth, and sire and dam. The same beast can be worked as part of a mob today and looked up individually tomorrow — nothing to convert, no second plan to buy.
One record, two ways of working.
Work the group
Draft, move, treat and weigh a whole mob in one action in the yards. The mob is who’s in it right now, and its history is kept as animals join and leave.
Track the beast
Scan an EID tag and you have that animal’s full life — every mob it’s been in, every treatment, every weight, its breeding and its movements.
No migration to grow
Start mob-only on day one and begin tagging individuals whenever you like. The records simply gain detail; nothing re-imports and no plan changes.
Membership is a history, not a switch
When an animal moves between mobs, that’s recorded as an event with the date it actually happened on the farm — not just “which mob is it in now”. So a treatment you logged against “Weaner Steers” in March still resolves to exactly the animals that were in that mob in March, even after half of them have since moved to “Sale Mob”. Your history stays true as the herd churns.
Current state is derived, so it’s always right
An animal’s current mob and status aren’t fields someone can fat-finger out of sync. They’re worked out from the stream of movement and membership events. That’s the mechanism that lets two people work the same mob offline, on two phones, and have it reconcile cleanly when they sync — there’s no single “current mob” cell for them to fight over.
Tags are the identity
NLIS mandates RFID ear tags, so the tag is the animal’s identity — we build on that rather than trying to identify cattle by photo. Scan with a Bluetooth EID reader or a walk-over reader and the animal is matched to its record instantly. A tag can be replaced (a lost or damaged tag is a new, traceable event), and the animal’s history follows the beast, not the tag.
The detail.
| Managed as | Mob-level and individual animal, in the same record set |
|---|---|
| Individual attributes | NLIS/EID tag, breed, sex, date of birth, sire & dam, current mob & property (derived) |
| Mob membership | Event-based with farm-truth dates; full join/leave history retained |
| Identification | RFID/EID ear tag via Bluetooth or walk-over reader; tag replacement tracked |
| Corrections | A correction is a new, traceable entry — records are never overwritten |
| Scale | From a few head to hundreds of thousands, one platform, no plan split |
